373 - 27.10.26 - A day of good weather

Finally the sun came back and the skies were blue. It does make me often wonder about people being 'rewarded' for doing incredibly stupid and destructive things. 


Here are some of them


These people have profited from the destruction of the rainforest. This year the burning season which pisses people off EVERY YEAR got out of hand and they blamed - El Nino. The palm oil producers complained there wasn't enough water. The Indonesian government said the rains were late or never. The Singaporean government blamed the Indonesia government when a majority of the companies involved were registered in Singapore. Singapore has been complicit with the destruction of rainforests forever. Ironically the man who made biscuits had decided to close his biscuit factory to invest in more palm oil. It is just absolutely vile. I cannot tell you how vile the march of palm oil is and how corrupt everything is as well. You are either a neocolonial oppressor, like Singapore, or you are a victim, like Indonesia. Why has Indonesia just been plagued with the most inept and pathetic governments - not just now, but decade after decade, which allow the most awful inequality to continue to exist? Could it be that its Hindu roots still influence a caste system in which people who are not born to a certain family or place are just thrown to the wall? I don't know what it is. It's mad what it is.

Anyway.

I'm going for my run in 15 minutes. And then it will be more work on the slides and then a run through. After that I'll take Ma to Thomson Plaza followed by the usual afternoon siesta. Swim and then work on Lady of the Beasts. I'll hammer that out. 

Busy day tomorrow. Oh I'll have to meet Braema this evening as well. I love these long wonderful days. Peaceful and tranquil. Oh I need to book Ghin's flights as well. Right. So loads to do then.

Will war be averted? Will Israel be put back in its box? Will the conflict between Russia and Europe finally stop? Will the suffering of the Palestinians end? It was so good to see the concert in Dublin. It is crazy that we cannot advocate for Palestine here. It's mad is what it is, again. To be saying the right thing. I hate Singapore and the glazed eyes of the people here. Should it all ever come crashing down they will be in for a quare shock. Reading the comments of people online, they are barely coherent. It just makes me realise that actually education has completely failed. People cannot think their way out of a paper bag, never mind see beyond their own selfish calculations. People make and do stupid pointless things instead of doing the things which matter. The most galling thing though is that they will not understand what they have missed and so it won't matter for them that they did the stupid thing anyway. Like this losers gallery up there. They think they have been tremendously successful being on the board of these forest destroyers. It's so mad. 

OK, its time for my run.

Geylang Serai is the place i feel most at home in Singapore. Possibly because a vast majority of the population are still Singaporean and i speak the language they speak there - Malay. Also, it hasn't changed that much. OK, it has, but i'd like to think it hasn't. We ate at the new market there which used to be a little better than an open sewer. But it was our open sewer and we loved it. Geylang was heaving with people getting ready for Ramadan. On the table we have sup kambing, otak-otak, nasi padang and rojak. Drinkswise we have lime juice, Kickapoo and teh. It is hot - really hot. We are all pespiring and we can feel our clothes stick to our skin and bellies and thighs. I wrote and read this for Pa at the service. It was in long hand, but I have it here typed out now. It is peppered with verses from the New Testament, because I was asked by the priest to refer to Jesus occasionally, so I made that concession. Big shout out to Ben and the Christian Community whom I spent many a delighted evening reading and discussing the Bible during Bible study class. =========================== Thank you everybody for coming here to honour the life of husband, father and legend which is Eric Sim Chin Seng. Pa crossed over on the 16th of March at 7.30 am. He went peacefully and gently. He breathed his way slowly past this life and on to the new one, leaving his bark, his body, which carried him and his indomitable spirit and endless capacity to love, for 81 years, to say farewell to one last time. I should try and love Singapore. And I have really tried to love it. Really. But life in Singapore is not real life. Sadly. The only thing which is real about it is my relationships with my family. I understand we lead very privileged lives. We live in a beautiful house and we live in Serangoon Gardens. I get to swim everyday. We never worry about where the next meal's coming from. Very importantly, we have our health and we have each other. These are all very good things, nothing to be sneezed at. But Singapore itself ... that's a different story. Where to begin? I cannot complain because we actually live in a very nice part of Singapore. It's it unique in all of Singapore. There is no other place like it. In fact the government should slap a preservation order on the place. It is an actual village.
