Tis the season

Image
The beech tree is in full autumn colour now and when the sun hits it, the gold that reflects off the leaves engulfs the rooms in a splendid but false flame I thought that i'd share this autumn magic... as a child in Singapore the idea of seasons was incredible. Just as the idea of there NOT being seasons is incredible here. Being colonised subjects our literature all came from here. How we longed to taste the snow on our tongues or be immolated by a shower of falling leaves. Summer meant roses and long days. Spring was supposed to make you feel joy. And i still carry this wonderment when the seasons occure, especially when they occur as violently and obviously as this. Ah the results of three days of schleeping.

Pumcan and other scary things

This halloween Ghin dressed up as a pumcan. For those who are not grandparents or related to us, you should look away now. Look away especially if you find Anne Geddes photography of babies in furry and fluffy fruit costumes nauseating and parents who do this out of their minds since children do grow up and are likely to be embarrassed by this when they reach nine, or younger. It was a board game and sometimes, when we could sit still for more than a couple of minutes, the cousin would take it out and play it for a bit. There was this square on it called Sweet Sunday. And every disliked it because you did nothing on it. Sweet Satay, we called it. Boring! A few other things we used to thing incredible boring when we were kids. Walking. Why would anyone walk when they could run? Consequently when i read the story of Roger Bannister and how he could not walk anywhere i thought, Right on! Run anywhere and everywhere. Sleeping in the afternoons! Who could imagine sleeping being of any use at all! Covering your eyes with a rillow to prevent the glare of the sun from waking you... sitting down and TALKING. How could adults do anything soooooo boring? Talk, what are they talking about? And how had talking made any difference (i actually still hold this view subversively in meetings...especially ...
