More questions

I am trying to think - know, this may induce nosebleed, but nevermind - about all the stuff i have been reading and observing about patterns, the holy grail, grail mythology, gnostics, physics, etc... and so far i have come to this.... There is the physical world. The world that we have come to know as our world. It is really our own truth for now. The only truth we can grasp. It is the only thing we can work with and upon the physical matter we see reflected the results of our labour. We can make a mark upon it. This includes the things we can see under a microscope, we can measure which used to be invisible to us. Snowflakes. Vibrations of planets. Moleclues. The DNA. This is included in the physical world. What this level of the physical world shows us is that it is composed of patterns. Spirals, polygons. Mostly spirals and polygons. When the patterns degenerate decomposition takes place. This much we know. Now comes the interesting part. Should i make more of the f...

Ride on

Image
Tintagel, here we come... Soooo.... today i went for my first riding lesson in a year. I have always wanted to horse ride but never got round to sorting it out. Now i have sorted it out. I ride every Wednesday. After i finished riding, on the way home, Paco's music came on the radio. He passed away today. I do not know who he was, but he seemed very important to many people. As the light faded over Belfast Lough and i wound my way back through the Craigantlet Hills i thought, how simply wonderful life is. Again, there was another, yet another fab day in school. I was cooking curry and chappati with the kids. Chappati is easy to make. Raq told me how to do it. Flour and water. Mix and roll. That's it. Simples. The kids chopped up the veg themselves. They ground the spices. They watched me cook the curry. They made the chappati themselves. We did maths again. I let them explore the number clock. Tomorrow i am going to let them figure out the seven and three times tables...

The Newport Wetlands

Image
Many thousands of years ago, back in the day when we did have a Members' Day in RSPB Northern Ireland, i invited the then warden of the Newport Wetlands to come and speak about reedbed restoration. Robin something was his name, i remember because i recall thinking imagine being called Robin and working for the RSPB. Never did i think for one minute that i would actually, many lifetimes later be in Newport itself. I did not know what to expect from the place. The RSPB here does not have a people friendly reserve. By that i mean a place where people can explore the great outdoors comfortably and then go and get a cup of tea. It doesn't. You could visit a reserve, but it's ok. It's not the best, you know. Anyway, i went to the Newport Wetlands, expectations quite low, i admit, and MAN was i blown away. Not just literally cos it was a very windy day, but i was really really REALLY impressed with the set up. Here was a restored site, which now held ten per cent of the re...

Dr Who-ed

Image
So we went to Carrdiffyyll and of course we had to go to the Dr Who exhibition. It was awesome. As Emmet would say. Daaaaleks!! There were original props all round. It was stunning stuff. The first bit of the exhibition we got to take part in an episode of Dr Who. It really was well worth the £15. We had such a good time. MY fav villans, the Weeping Angels. Perhaps i am melancholic after all. Is there a collective noun for sonic screwdrivers? A doctoration of sonic screwdrivers? TARDIS console, the latest one. All the old consoles were also on display Ah the Time Lords, or as Steiner calls them, Archangels, aka Lords of Time Michael, Rapahel, Uriel and Sameal Well, sort of. More Dalek action...this time you can change your voice to be Daleky Costume department Thought the wigs looked like Dr Who villans themselves Cardiff Bay Piazza Express City Centre Cardiff My sweethearts Don't get more Welsh than ...

The Eden Project

Image
Biomes are go!! So before anyone starts me about the Eden project, let me say firstly, that i know what is wrong with it. I know that it is not the best thing we can do - screw over our landscape and then think we can put a rainforest in the middle of Cornwall and think that's ok. I know that it is not sustainable nor wise. I also know that there is a serious LACK of biodiversity in it. There were plenty of dunnock and ants. There was lots of invasive species. Growing football sized lemons is NOT the way we should be evolving. I know all of that. HOWEVER, i was deeply, deeply curious to see it. Because it looks sooo fabulous. And also because i wondered what could a project this size tell us about how we COULD survive? It was really impressive. I don't know how sustainable the place is nor would it really be possible. But what i do know is that it is an attempt to rescue what was effectively a landscape which had been completely trashed. You might say give it a few...

God is not an idiot

Image
I was watching the documentary the Bible Hunters last night. I am not a rabid Christian, in case people are worrying about me. I just love mythology and constructions of our narrative. People love telling each other and themselves stories. And the Bible is one of the most important stories of our time. Well, it would appear that the Bible was not always the unchanging word of God. Shock howwow. When people began to understand this, there was an uproar in the West. The Bible is not the unchanging word of God? How can this be?!! This must be the work of the devil. How dreadful. It's like people could have said, how wonderful! I wonder what else was said? You know i never really found this fitted with my own view or reality of life... Really the moment this happened was a moment of great freedom. You are now free from the Bibile said fate and coincidence. And what did people then say? They said, No!! We don't want to be free. We want it to be the way it was EXACTLY. Take you...

Why did i ever stop running?

Image
Part of the running route Today i went running for the first time in months. Proper cross country running for an hour and a half around the Craigantlet Hills. It was the best thing i have done for like ever. Why did i ever think that not running was a good idea? I think because last year i joined a gym. If i say i am about to join a gym will someone hit me with a shovel hard. I do not like being in gyms. They are noisy and filled with truly poor music. When i run in the open there is fresh air and the elements. There is change. There is real terrain. There is weather and views. There is silence. On this running route there are also lapwings, curlews and linnets. A lots of birdsong. An added bonus. Maybe even yellowhammers! Ok there are cars, but really, there isnt a whole lot of good things which i can think about in gyms which a pair of good trainers and a much loved running route wont give you. Today there was sunshine. I walked for a minute and ran for a minute on hills. The distanc...
