I am pleased to report that my experiment with thinking about the good things has worked. In one swoop i have managed to both exercise thought and be positive. Steiner would be so proud of me. I also have even gone through the greater lengths of remembering all the good stuff which was also linked to the bad stuff. I don't know why i did not do this earlier.
The past few weeks, maybe even months has been quite disjointed for me personally. My parents were in town and when that happens, everything stops and revolves around them. Having escaped Singapore for the better part of my life and therefore not seen them an awful lot, i feel duty bound to hang out with them when they have made the ginormous effort to hang out with us. It isn't like some car drive up to see the rellys. I mean they really did pull out all the stops and now we sorta have them here for at least two months of the year. Then we go to Singapore for about six weeks. The children adore them, and they adore the children. So, how could i not stop the world for them.
But this has played havoc with my social life, although i tell myself, most Irish people have my current social life. Irish people are very family centred and as a result, they end up hanging out with their rather large families. So i now do the same. With my considerably smaller family. But nevertheless, it is the same effect.
But now they have left and as a result, i spend the first couple of weeks trying to remember my way around any shops - till now my mom has done all my shopping for me, and coaxing my sons out of bad eating habits, which have been indulged over the time my parents were here. I do not understand why it is when we were growing up we were given a completely balanced meal, but it is perfectly alright to ladle every colour of fast food and corn syrup into my children and then tell ME off for being the bad person when i say, no we cannot eat pizza again for the fifty-fifth time this week.
This all has been compounded by several class trips away all which seemed to have aggregated themselves into the past two weeks - which was also preceded by this emergency trip to St Andrews and bookended by my second woodwork lesson swiftly followed by a weekend in Portaferry. I have been soooo busy i have not had ANY time to take photographs. Oh YES and the garden as well, which is looking great - so great that i have no time to take pictures of that either.
Plus there was parents evening and i am in the midst of trying to teach the children volume. Which means we are making boxes of various sizes. It was really fun in fact. On Monday, the children and myself made lots of 1 cm cubed boxes - followed by 2 cm cubed boxes and we tried to work out the number of boxes which would fit into it. This is the easiest way of teaching children volume. Then we made them in inches and feet and tomorrow we are doing it in metres. Based on this the children then understand that volume can be done on any scale and they also understand that calculating the volume is necessary unless you want to spend the rest of your life making cubes in order to figure out what the volume of something is. This is maths made practical. It seemed the most logical way to teach it.
So i think things are just going to esclate until we leave for Singapore. Hooray. Can't wait now to laze by the pool. A friend said to me, i can't do that, lie by the pool. Well, i said, you just watch me now. I was BORN to lie by a pool. If you asked me what my natural habitat was, like my guilty pleasure, lying by the pool would be it.
Heh heh heh.
Bring it on.
