Plunging

It's fascinating how bits of your life can come together.

I'm currently reading the Dao Te Ching. It was Lianne who put me on it. When i got back from Singapore i was reorganising something when it fell out, there at my feet, and i thought, i can read this now.

Having decided that i did want to stay in conservation, but that current conservation mindsets were too rigid, i thought it would be fascinating to see if there is an Eastern way of doing 'conservation'. As i read the Dao, i thought, for a start it would be interesting to see if we can apply the Dao to conservation. And for starters, the whole classification model is self defeating. I am now to believe that Plato and his Theory of Forms is responsible for the ontological error in way in which 'scientists' go about their business. I think the best way to do conservation is actually not to do conservation at all. That is, to do conservation but not realise that you are doing it. Did i blog about this before? It feels as if i might have.

I also scrubbed the school courtyard today. My arms and legs and back ache. This is the first time my body has ached after menial labour. Not counting gardening of course. In fact i was so tired that when we got home, after cooking some lunch, i needed to lie down. And so i suggested to Oisin that we watch Harry Potter. It was the Philosopher's Stone and it was a good two hour veg out session. After that it was Oisin who suggested drawing. The results you see above. I had wanted to do Bhudda and the quote for sometime now and finally we had the opportunity. I put on the radio, Classic FM, some light entertainment and pretty but unchallenging music, got out the watercolours and as Oisin drew Deep Dive the submarine transformer, i sketched Bhudda. It was the sort of evening i'm sure i'll remember. Simple and miraculous in the quiet, the silences. The translucent, crepscular light, a stillness and sweetness which holds the moment still. It was like riding a simurgh in the flying sunset, profound and perfect.

But back to the Dao. I was also reading up on Steiner for the fair yesterday and into dark matter because of the CERN experiment. It struck me that Steiner's view of the universe is very like the Dao. This sense of a unifying princple that is multiformed but indivisible. As i read up on dark matter and string theory, it also seemed to me that apart from the near mystic mental gymnastics that physicists do based on science and experiments, it is very like the dao. Finally of course this all finds application in shamanism and how shamans are able to chaos theory like affect changes through their ability to know and control the unseen.

Hmmm...suddenly i feel like drawing a simurgh, wonder why....
