Game of How Many Naked Women Can We Get into an Hour?
Watched Game of Thrones last night because i wanted to see what i could recognise from the NI bits of the shoot. Well there was Shane’s Castle, the Mausoleum, we were actually there looking for bats this winter when the set was being built, the Paint Hall, for indoor shooting and lots of breasts. The last ones i did not recognise.
Needless to say, i differ with the critics. I think that its great that NI is getting lots and lots of money and coverage from this series, but the pilot has been mostly shite. It probably appeals to 20 year old men, but the last time i looked i was not a 20 year old man. There is like this man who does not talk and grunts a lot and is quite well built, but since that kind of man does nothing for me, it’s not great watching.
There is also incest and random killing of 10 year olds who climb the walls of castles, so i think i will not be watching it. For me it was a bit like someone’s rather immature imaginings of some debauched medieval fantasy, and that someone would be a man.
In essence, if it wasn’t for the NIness of the thing, i might have turned it off a long time before the end, which consisted of a girl, not more than 15 being raped by the Grunter, in public, but not before three men were eviscerated as foreplay to sex as part of a wedding.
What is wrong with our culture and society that we can make such sick films and then have people praise this as good TV? I understand that it is important to reflect reality, to be truthful, but in my 40 years i certainly have never attended a wedding where evisceration was part of the ceremony. And there is no use saying to me, well it used to be like this, because, guess what, it is not like this now and it should not ever be like this again.
Is there not enough carnage and hideousness in the world for us to report on, to try and stop, to make sure that it never happens again, are there not enough young girls being raped in refugee camps for real that we have to recreate this all at the cost of millions of pounds so that people can get lost in a sick and strange fantasy?
The Game of Thrones has been so much a part of my life in a strange sort of way now that i was really looking forward to seeing it... in that way it is really disappointing. I really hope that the content does improve, but it might just be heading one way i think.
